"20 Years After: Introducing Antitrust in Italy"
This paper reviews the cultural background and the events leading to the
introduction of the first italian antitrust law, in october 1990. First it surveys
the developments in competition policy and the rise of direct public
intervention in the italian economy during the 1960s and 1970s. It then
argues that the introduction of an antitrust law was first seen as an instrument
for the liberalization of the economy and describes the way the first draft of
the law was set up.
