Gianni & Origoni strengthens its China Practice

February 23, 2026

Hong Kong/Shanghai, February 23, 2026 – International law firm Gianni & Origoni is reinforcing its strategic growth in China with the addition of two Foreign Partners, further consolidating the firm’s position in key Asian markets: Yujing Liu joins the team in Shanghai, and Sergio Scanu joins the one in Hong Kong.

Yujing Liu is an expert in mergers and acquisitions as well as private equity. Her hiring represents a targeted step in enhancing capabilities in complex, high-value strategic transactions. Over the course of her career at leading U.S. and Chinese law firms, Liu has advised major companies and multinational corporations on complex cross-border transactions. She joins from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.

Sergio Scanu brings extensive experience in advising Italian and Chinese clients on cross-border commercial and M&A transactions, with a particular focus on international commercial contracts. He built his career across the Beijing and Hong Kong offices of leading Italian law firms, gaining deep insight into the business dynamics between Italy and China.

These appointments are part of Gianni & Origoni’s consistent and long-term growth strategy in China, reinforcing its role in the region with a structured and well-established presence. The Firm can rely on a team of 11 people across Hong Kong and Shanghai, including 8 professionals, reflecting a development model based on new investments and operational continuity.

Gianni & Origoni’s investment in Asian markets started in 2007 with the establishment of its Chindia Desk, dedicated to China and India. The firm has since continued to invest in this strategic region. Ambassador Vincenzo De Luca has recently joined the firm as Of Counsel to expand activities in Asian and Middle Eastern markets; in March 2025, Eviana Leung joined to further bolster the advisory services offering in Hong Kong. In Shanghai the team is based in the heart of the city’s institutional and commercial district, home to the Consulate General of Italy, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, SACE and ICE (the Italian Trade & Investment Agency) reinforcing Gianni & Origoni’s ties with “Sistema Italia” and the institutions of both countries.

Alessandro Zalonis, Partner in charge of Southeast Asia and recently appointed Head of the China Practice commented: “Our structured, long-standing and deeply rooted presence in the country translates into concrete and timely support for our clients. For Italian companies, Gianni & Origoni is a trusted partner for international expansion into Asia, while Chinese investors can rely on the firm’s expertise to develop their business across Italy and Europe.”
